Jakarta to Langkawi

We have just finished our stay in Jakarta and have arrived in Langkawi pretty much in one piece.

Week two in Jakarta continued on with Nate and myself ending up in hospital for IV drips. It's all a bit of a blur now, but looking back over it I ended up with 1 case of disentry, 3 bouts of food poisoning, a 24 hour hot/cold fever and to round it all our a nice case of the flu. After all that I was hoping for the bird flu to just come and end it all.

It wasn't all bad though. Paula's family were so kind to us while we were there and really went the extra mile to help us out. Trying to get me pissed at  every opportunity also helped dull the pain a little. We spend the last week in a nice hotel, which gave us some much need respite. I highly recommend Hotel Borobudur if you're ever in Jakarta.

We attended the wedding of Grace (Paula's sister) and husband Julius on the 8th. Congratulations guys. Indo weddings are a big event, with everyone from the close relatives to the distant cousins doktor gigi (dentist) attending. I'll post some pictures when I get home and unload my camera.

Looking back over our time in Jakarta I can say that on the whole it was an enjoyable experience ... more so for the people we met than the things we did.

Our flights from Jakarta to Langkawi were not uneventful. The original plan was to  catch a connecting flight with Air Asia when we arrived in KL, but the flight from Jakarta was delayed. After checking out through customs in KL we managed to jump the queue on the Taxi rank to get to the domestic terminal. The driver was absolutley crazy. He was running red lights and screeching around corners. I didn't really want to get there that badly. Anyhow, we made it there without crashing. Unfortunately, our Air Asia flight would not let us board, even though they hadn't taken off yet. We were too late. It looked like we might be spending the night in the terminal, but we managed to convince Malaysian Airlines to squeeze us into their fully booking flight to Langkawi later that night.

So here we are in Langkawi. This is the kind of Asian experience I was hoping for, beautiful tropical jungle mountains edged by white sandy beaches ... now we're talking.

Ooooh Jason,

Hi Kate, where are you from? It's had it's good points and some bad, but yeah ... all in all we're having a good time.

Hi Jason,

I am from England. Interested in Malaysia as a whole. I did have some articles on my 'Pondok' but alas no good in Firefox so it had to go. I can cope with one or two errors but 47 is beyond me..lol

it was made by a friend but he is unreachable now - sad but it happens - It was created around Kubrick - Wordpress.

When I put it through W3C - 47 errors..OMG..lolol

I have plenty of images of Malaysia I can use at the new Mambo so I will have Pondok again. I just ordered a new template so I should soon be up and running again.

I love Borneo, Langkawi, Sabah, and Sarawak. I have learned quite a bit now about Malaysia. Two areas needing protection are: Penan people, and Orangutans.

Looking forward to your next globe trot of Asia....heheehhe
